It’s particularly hot today as I quickly make my way across camp. Before I know it, sweat beads on my forehead as I put my hands on my knees, hunching over a hole in the concrete known as the latrine. Cabbage and peanut butter pour out of my stomach, narrowly avoiding my dirty feet and it seems I’ve also managed to dispel my last dose of antibiotic. It’s the fifth time I’ve been on meds in two months. Africa does not seem to agree with me.
I use the back of my sandy arm to wipe tears from my eyes and attempt to regain my composure before rejoining the children for our last afternoon together in my team’s ten day stint in Rhino Camp.
